Hello, everyone, GPS is hosting the first NCGS Global Think Tank Thursday, October 29, through Friday, October 30, 2009.
First, I want to thank you for volunteering to help create the best Global Think Tank ever. That shouldn't be too hard since it is also the first Global Think Tank ever.
I think the best way to proceed is to use this wiki page to communicate and then to meet in person only on an "as needed" basis.
Statement of purpose
When the Board of Trustees drafted new and compelling mission and vision statements for Girls Preparatory School, we knew we had a challenge to meet. At the grass roots level, faculty and staff volunteered to explore ways that our school could become a model school for value-added education that propelled us into the twenty-first century. In the summer of 2008, Kitty Burns of the National Coalition of Girls Schools suggested that we might want to offer the first Global Think Tank on our campus. Because a think tank is, really, a brain trust of best practices among schools around the country, we jumped at the chance to provide a venue where give-and-take among teachers considering change could take place. The purpose of the Global Think Tank is to provide an opportunity for schools around the country to exchange ideas about global education, focusing on what works, what doesn't, and what is still “in the works.” We are interested in all aspects--inside and outside of the classroom. Many independent schools nation wide have already embraced a curriculum that reflects the shifting leverage in our world today. Our mission states that Girls Preparatory School creates leaders by engaging the mind, stimulating the spirit, instilling values and self confidence, and challenging girls to recognize their membership in the global community. Our vision challenges us to stand among the nation's leading schools, driven to improve everything that we do to educate and prepare our girls, and sending forth graduates who are such a force in the global community that they are recognized as models of active and ethical citizenship.
We see this Global Think Tank as a natural result of our interest and concern.
